Damp conditions greeted the drivers at Boyndie Drome Circuit near Banff and showers persisted but it dried up for the finals for the third round of GKC club championships.  

Feature Trophies on the day was the September Cup  (driver scoring the least points with the minimum of five in the class) and the Mike Philip Trophy (Mini Max driver selected by the officials on the day)

(11) Katie Donaldson

Bambino

The ever more popular class saw four drivers on the grid and with another couple in the club, things are on the up for this class.  Katie Donaldson set the fastest time of 56.841 seconds on a drying track on the final round.  Sonny Brandie was only a second down for second.  First timers Owen Weston and Eilidh MacDonald finished third and fourth.

(27) Owen Ross leads (16) Steven Duncan

Honda Cadets

A trio of drivers broke away early in the cadet final.  These were Owen Ross, Steven Duncan, and Calum Lewis.  Duncan slipped through to lead on lap 5.  Gate corner proved difficult as both Ross and Lewis slipped through.  Duncan regained second on the last lap.  Ross took the victory followed home Duncan and Lewis.  Lennon Allardyce, Dylan Mackay, Max Taylor and Alex Hawcutt were the next group of drivers.  Mackay led this group for most of the race. Hawcutt worked his way through and at the finishing line in fourth followed by Allardyce, Mackay and Taylor.  Aiden MacDonald took the Novice trophy over Konar Simpson.

(54) Ben Burnett

Mini Max

A delay occurred as drivers made a late change to slick tyres.  Only driver not to change was Ben Burnett.

The only Junior Max driver, Matt McQueen, was set off ahead of the Mini Max karts.

Proudly displaying the ‘S’ for Scottish Champion Jonathan Edwards drove away from the pack to win by 13 seconds.  Ben Burnett was next on the road and as the track dried was at a disadvantage.  Chasing hard was Les Taylor.  Kevin’s Korner must be his favourite passing place as he was alongside on three occasions but Burnett retained second.  However on the four try, Taylor made it into second and was away.  Burnett faced more pressure from Rebecca Macphee and Darren Guijt but held on to third.  Macphee took fourth and Guijt fifth.

Junior Max

  • 1st – Matt McQueen (Golspie)
(39) Keiran Smart leads (37) Cameron McPhee

Senior Max

Cameron Macphee got the best start from the outside of the front row from pole man Keiran Smart and Ryan Simpson. At the end of Boyndie Straight on lap 3 Smart lead.  Macphee tucked in behind for the next 7 laps pressing Smart hard.  Pit corner was the location when Macphee made a clean pass to regain the lead.  Smart made an immediate response at pit corner but locked up which allowed Macphee away and victory.  Smart came home second with Simpson third.

In the 177 class Duncan Urquart had an early off at pit corner which allowed Robert Strachan through to take the victory.
