BDOC Round 1 Report

Boyndie Drome roared into life as Grampian Kart Club hosted a well attended first round of the Boyndie Drome Open Challenge on Sunday 19 March. An overcast sky greeted drivers to the circuit but a dry track ensured some fast and extremely close racing as drivers aimed to get their 2016 campaign off to a flying start.

Honda Cadets

In Honda Cadets (8-13years) pole man Jonathan Edwards held the lead on the opening lap from a fast starting Logan Mann who made two places off the start with Ben Burnett, Jake MacKay and Leon Henderson hot on their heels. Edwards held the lead to take victory whilst a hard thought race took place behind with a fast charging MacKay coming through from fifth to finish second followed by Ben Burnett, Leon Henderson, Logan Mann and Connor Duncan rounding out the top six.

Mini Max

Next up were the Mini Max (11-15years) with pole man Ben Macleod taking a lights to flag victory, Hamish Ross made the jump on Craig Mann at the start but Mann regained the position on lap two to finish second followed by Ross, Keirran Glenn and Craig Blake.

Prokart (Hire karts)

The ever popular arrive and drive prokart class once again so some close racing with Craig Philip and Andrew Cruickshank promoted to the A final for finishing one-two in the B final. Fraz Huntly jumped pole sitter Chloe Scott to take victory with a fast charging Michael Ogilvie who came through from fifth on the grid to take second followed by Chris Walker, Adrian Brodie, Dominic Lund and David Ross rounding out the top six.

Senior Max

Senior Max (16+) concluded the days racing with Liam Ross getting the jump on pole sitter Keiran Smart. Ross and Smart swapped positions multiple times during the opening laps with David Eason and Gary Bird joining the battle. Keiran Smart would take victory followed by David Eason, Liam Ross, Gary Bird, Cameron McPhee and Chloe Scott rounding out the top six after charging up the pack from fourteenth.
