The drivers were met with the track covered with snow but with determination and an army of volunteers the track was swept and racing got going at 11:00.

The first race meeting of 2018 was the first round of the Boyndie Drome Open Championship. 2018.

Honda Cadets

Max Taylor got the better start from pole man Leon Hastie.  This pair drove away from the rest of the field.  Hastie was pilling on the pressure and finally got into the lead on lap six.  But Hastie was not able to get away from Taylor who tucked in on his bumper.  Taylor challenged a couple of times but Hastie held on to take the victory.  Taylor crossed the line close behind.  Logan Gerard came home third followed by Ella Matheson.

Mini Max

David Mitchell took his Junior Max kart to overall race victory.

In the Mini Max classJack Mackay took the lead from Callum Meldrum, Ben Burnett and Les Taylor.  This four toured around the circuit until the seventh lap when Meldrum got in front of Mackay. Meldrum held on to take the victory from Mackay, Burnett and Taylor.  Chloe Grant came fifth ahead of Kieran Wood.

Prokarts

The largest grid on the day saw Liam Souter lead Daniel Macrae at the end of lap one.  This pair drew away with Macrae keeping Souter honest.  In hot pursuit were Kieran Glen, Rich Christie, Jonathan Edwards and Steven Donald.  Edwards moved to second on lap two.  On lap six Macrae suddlingly lost ground as he spun at the Seafield Complex loosing second place to Edwards.  Macrae shot after and regained second at Pit Corner on the next tour.  Souter took the chequered flag and was followed home Macrae, Edwards, Glen, Christie and Dane Christenson.

Senior Max

Kieran Smart got the best start from the outside of the front row to lead at the end of the first lap from Fraser Skene, Michael Christie and Fraser Ballantyne.  The front pair drew away from the pack.  At the end of Boyndie Strait and into MTM Bend Skene made his move to take the lead.  Skene went on to take the chequered flag and the victory.  The pack closed down Smart.  Ballantyne took third on the last lap from Christie.  Smart finished second from Ballantyne, Christie and Ryan Simpson.

Senior Max 177 / Clubman

Drama before the start as Dominic Lund’s kart threw the drive chain leeving his kart near Pit Corner.  Steven Watt took the lead and led to the chequered flag.  However after the race he was demoted for a driving infringement.

This left Martin Ingles to take the victory from Martin Wallace and Lee McMurchie and Derek Morgan.

In a small field Gary Warren took the win from Charlie Mackintosh and Bobby Davidson.
